Ohio Central

Their LTV Alcos on the move...

Status update and additional info from Frank Vollhardt - The Ohio Central 1663 is very interesting. It looks like an S-2 but started life as an S-4.We know it is a former Nickle Plate Road unit, later N&W, sold to Naparano who in turn sold it to Steelton & High Spire who numbered it as their second 63 (the first 63 had been changed to S&HS bicentenbial 76). When S&HS purged its Alcos they went to sister RR South Buffalo where 63 became SB Rys 2nd 63.The unit was later sold to OC and renumbered to 1663.S&HS liked Blunt trucks so they converted the S-4 to S-2. As for our local Alcos all four Alcos at CSC in Warren were sold to OC. The 400 is now at Coshocton and the 107,1052 and 1007 are now stored at OC MV shops in Youngstown area.

The first shot shows the OSRR S-4 1695 coupled to some other OC units, OC GP38 2175, newly primered F9B 781 and OC GP10 700. Taken at the Ohio Central shops at Morgan Run, Oh on 6/9/01.

OC RS3 1077 coupled to F9B 817, seen at the west end of the OC shops.  This unit has been out of service for well over a year and it's now starting to look like a unit again. All three shots by David Baer.

S4 1663 amongst a lot of EMDs [boo!] and an MLW [yeah!]. Above two at Morgan Run shops in 7/00 and 4/00.

M420 3567 and the HR412 sandwich two ex-CNW SD24s.

Matt Adams - "Here are a few of 3567 and 3588 when I first saw them in 1999 - we are at Gould Ohio on CUOH (Columbus & Ohio River, basically a paper RR OHCR set up to run ODOT's Panhandle from Columbus to Mingo Jct.) This particualr train is the MJT-16. He goes east with 20 (or more) loaded grain cars, drops them in the NS/CR Mingo Jct Yard and then returns west to Coshocton light. That C&NW painted SD18R (rebuild SD24) unit was gone within months of this photo."
